A literary and church monthly journal which Wilhelm Kristjanson describes as "preeminently a literary publication, Heimir carried the original work of very able writers, and translations of a religious, historical, scientific and literary nature" (p.359). (PUBLISHER: Winnipeg: published first by "Some Western Icelanders'/ útg. Nokkrir Íslendingar í Vesturheimi [1.-5. year/árg.], then by Unitarian Church of North America/Hið íslenzka únítaríska kirkjufélag í Vesturheimi [6.-9. year/árg.]. Publ. dates/Seq. 1.-9. year/árg. Gen. note Allt sem út kom. DESCRIPTION :This monthly church/literary journal was published from 1904-1914, but we offer here a partial set only, namely 31 issues, as described above. Very Good condition in three volumes with stapled printed paper covers, with the minor qualifications that Vol. II has a small perfortation to the front (cover) of the wraps, Vol. III has front cover loose, Vol. IV is wanting both covers, otherwise all VG. About 24 pages per issue; some issues are combined. CONTENTS/SUBJECTS : This is an Icelandic-Canadian Unitarian Church/literary journal, that includes contributions from the top Icelandic-Canadian writers, including Stefan G. Stefansson (a great deal of his poetry appears in the journal), Thorsteinn Th. Thorsteinsson, Kristinn Stefansson, Sig, Jul. Johannesson, Guttormur J. Guttormsson, etc. The editor himself was also a noted writer. He was also editor of one of the leading Icelandic-Canadian newspapers, Heimskringla (published in Winnipeg) and (from 1919 to 1940) he was the editor of the Icelandic- Canadian literary annual Timarit (founded in 1919), published in Winnipeg by the Icelandic National League (of North America); he was also a leading Winnipeg Unitarian Minister for the Icelandic-Canadian community. This journal is referenced in Hjartar, pages 23 and 73. Rare religious and literary journal that includes some of the best early Icelandic-Canadian/American literature.
