Sinopsis: Having lost wife and child, Josey Wales heads west from Missouri with his Cherokee friend Lone Watie and then, joined by an Indian woman and an old white woman and her granddaughter, moves southward to Texas.

Review: Josey Wales is so fast he guns down three men facing him before one of them can clear leather. This wild yarn masquerades as a true story - but the hero, folks, is not even listed in J.R. Nash's encyclopedia Bloodletters and Badmen. Even so, dialogue and detail have the unshaven authenticity of a WANTED poster. Just before the Civil War, Josey's wife and son are burned to death in Missouri by pillagers. During the War, he is a guerrilla, raping and raiding indiscriminately, and by mid-novel he has killed 35 men and is being pursued for the 7500-dollar robbery of a Federal paymaster. Texas-bound, he falls in with Lone Watie, an elderly Cherokee, and an outcast Cheyenne woman, Little Moonlight. Singlehandedly killing a whole gang of Comancheros (guys who sell firewater and firearms to Comanches), he rescues a buxom miss and her grandmother and decides to set up housekeeping with them. When their little ranch-to-be is threatened by a huge Comanche war party, he rides out to meet the Indians. . .alone. . . . Almost in double-vision, as if one were watching a kung fu epic at the same time. Or Clint Eastwood, who's already bought this property, since impossible odds make great fun. --Kirkus Reviews

Descripción Delacorte Press / Eleanor Friede, New York, 1975. Hardcover. Estado de conservación: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good. Jacket art by Al Pisano Ilustrador. "First published in 1973 under the title 'The Rebel Outlaw: Josey Wales." Additionally states "Third printing -- 1975," and DJ rear flap is coded "0575." Not price clipped; original $6.95 price showing. Front flap bears an endorsement from Clint Eastwood, calling book "a moving, exciting story," and adding "I liked the entire book so much that I have bought it as my next starring vehicle." Inscribed & signed "Forrest Carter" in black felt-tip to the FFE. The word "inscribed" -- for those in Westminster, Calif. who apparently can't figure this out -- means the author has written additional words, in addition to his signature. Jacket rear panel explains Forrest Carter's "Indian name is Little Tree" that he's "known as Storyteller in Council to the Cherokee Nations," that after being orphaned at the age of five he lived with his Cherokee grandparents in Tennessee until their deaths five years later. Although all this helped draw an endorsement from Oprah Winfrey for his follow-up book, "The Education of Little Tree," it now appears merely to confirm that Carter was, indeed, an inspired teller of tall tales. After Clint Eastwood released his 1976 film "The Outlaw Josey Wales," Alabamans viewing author "Forrest Carter" promoting the book on TV revealed author Carter was actually rabid anti-semite and segregationist Asa Earl Carter, who in 1956 told UPI that the NAACP had "infiltrated" Southern white teenage culture with "immoral" rock 'n roll records, calling on jukebox owners to purge all records by black performers. In 1958, Carter quit the Ku Klux Klan group he had founded after shooting two members in a dispute over finances. (Birmingham police filed attempted murder charges against Carter, but the charges were subsequently dropped.) Carter also ran unsuccessfully for lieutenant governor of Alabama that same year -- presumably on his "segregation forever" platform -- and only later appears to have recalled his "Cherokee" heritage. Signed copies of this book -- under any of its three variant hardcover titles -- are hard to find. 206 pp. Reduced from $850. Inscribed by Author(s). Nº de ref. de la librería 003777
