This paper was originally published in the Bulletin de la Societe Geographique d'Egypte, 1965, pp31-95. The author was Professor of Geography at UAE University. His research is based on trips in 1962 and 1963 funded by the Department of Geography at the University of Riyadh, and describes Saudi Arabia's diverse geography. The first trip took in Medina, Mt Uhud, Al-Aqul and the palm groves of Al-Ayyun, Abyar Ali, Yenbo, Qadr, Mecca, Jeddah, Khamis Mushait, Taif, Turbah, Bisha, Abha and environs. The second was limited to the Hejaz, revisiting previous locations plus Zaima Oasis, Shaddah on the new road between Mecca and Taif, and the small island of Saad near Jeddah.
