Black buckram (a library rebinding). 146 pp + plates. 108 figures in text (3 within introduction and 105 within main chapters) plus 152 full page BW plates (including title plate). Signed by Ruprich-Robert. Victor-Marie-Charles Ruprich-Robert (1820-1887) was a French architect, designer and architectural historian. This book was the culmination of the twenty years' teaching of ornamental composition at the Ecole gratuite de dessin de Paris (Paris Free School of Drawing). He would illustrate his courses by painting freehand examples, which were engraved for this book. The material is arranged in four parts: Leaves, Plants, Flowers, and Compositions. Exquisite detail in these plates. NOTE: All plates are numbered. Most were numbered at the time of engraving, just above the image. 25 in this volume, however, are numbered in pencil, either just above the image or at the bottom of the engraving page. Since this is a library binding, the collection could be a combination of two different engravings. The set, however, is complete and in order, and condition is consistent. Good+ (Former library book with ink stamps and perforated stamps, including on title page. Library ink stamp on every plate. Mild foxing throughout, Plate 142 being the worst.).
