Book condition: good, very scarce 1870 publication, subtitle continues: "familiar and scientific explanation of ledgerdermain, physical amusement, recreative chemistry, diversions with cards, and all the minor mysteries of mechanical magic, with feats as performed in public by Herb Alexander, Robert Houdin." 1000 interesting mental and physical recreations, with explanatory engravings, the boards feature a full page b/w illustration of a magician performing a card trick and shows scuffed rounded corners, light scuffing to front, a bit more to back, both sides darkened, front hinge cracked with light play, a few tears to page sides at front gutter, name in ink on front pastedown, note in pencil at top of back pastedown, small chip off inside bottom corner of last page, interior very clean, 132 pages with table of contents followed by 40 pages of other books by publisher, 4.5 X 7 inches.
