Tan, printed paper covers. The spine ends show wear, creasing to the paper on the spine, cocking, some tan spotting, wear to the paper covers, some tan spotting (foxing) is present to the pages. Overall, a well-preserved copy of a very fragile type of book; this is Number One of Wiley & Putnam's "Library of Choice Reading" series. An early American printing of Kinglake's Near & Middle Eastern travel classic, "Eothen", which first appeared in England in 1844. This copy bears the ink signature of World Traveller and author ("From Wall-Street to Cashmere: A Journal of Five Years in Asia, Africa and Europe, 1859"), John B. Ireland, on the title-page: Jno B Ireland 1846-N.Y. With the bookplate of Cleveland, Ohio based book collector (and traveller), William G. Mather (1857-1951), loosely inserted in this copy.
