Book condition: good, very scarce, volumes I and II of four, translated from the French, a new addition to which is added the Sequel of Julia, or, the new Eloisa, found among the author's papers after his descease, together with a portrait of Rosseau, b/w frontis of Rousseau on frontis of vol. I, full leather binding shows scuffing to both perimeters, each volume shows a 1.5" split at upper right spine edge but both boards are tight to spine, spines are beautifully designed with red title blocks, black number blocks and elaborate gilt trim and illustrations, some scuffing, overall very good, vol. I shows brief note in pencil on ffep, signature at top of title page, vol. II shows signature in pencil on on ffep, minor foxing to interiors overall both very clean, bindings tight, 344 and 306 pages, 4.25 X 7.25 inches.
