178 pages. Contents tight & clean, without marks. The first page of Ads and the last free endpaper are tanned. The contents otherwise are very clean & free from foxing. Slight crack to front inner hinge, but holding tight. The blind-stamped green cloth covers are clean & square (with v. slight shelfwear to top & bottom of spine); spine letters bright. The spine itself has tanned to a slightly brownish-green shade. Light top edge soil. On the front pastedown, noted antiquarian Los Angeles bookseller, Ernest Dawson, has inscribed in ink the following in a very small hand: "Christmas 1927. To Ruth Younger, Let this First Edition, in original cloth, uncut edges, tell you how keenly your friendship has been appreciated these past six months. Ernest Dawson". Then in the top margin of the first page of ads (dated August, 1864) he has written in pencil : First Issue of the First Ed. The Ringlet page 60 did not appear in later issues." This was a thoughtful gift to Ruth, but I'm wondering if she might not have preferred jewelry. (?). An interesting Association copy of a scarce first issue by Tennyson.
