Early edition of these unusual illustrations circa 1925, small 4to, 215 x 180 mm, 8½ x 7¼ inches, white boards with green frame and spine, Struwwelpeter in red tunic and green stockings, vignette from the Inky Boys to lower cover (white Blackamoor), (24) pages. Full colour illustrations throughout adapted from the original illustrations (unattributed), printed on coated paper. Head and tail of spine and corners slightly rubbed, a near Fine clean copy in very good DUSTWRAPPER (dw: slightly worn on spine, 10 mm (½") chip at corner of upper panel, a few short closed edge tears, but clean and bright). The image of Struwwelpeter on the cover is the usual 20th cent. design used by Blackie and Routledge, but inside Struwwelpeter is quite different with a girlish face and a mass of soft blond hair, his neckerchief and stockings are dark blue, Cruel Frederick doesn't snarl, his tongue hardly protrudes as he tortures the fly; the doctor looks pleasant, Suck-a-Thumb's toes are not turned in. A very toned down version. This edition followed a smaller version from Milford/Oxford whose cover repeats the image of the blond haired Shock-Headed Peter, and the Blackamoor on the lower cover is black. See Ruhle 184a, not in Baumgartner, 1 copy only located in the major English libraries. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE. FURTHER IMAGES ON REQUEST. POSTAGE AT COST.
