First edition. 8vo. 3pp. advertisements. Original blue cloth lettered in gilt. Minor foxing to early leaves and edges of text block, superficial abrasive rubbing to inner edge of frontispiece image, spine slightly dulled, but overall a VG+ copy. Frontispiece. An uncommon book by Richard Marsh, author of gothic horror classic The Beetle (1897), the title tale here reflecting his talent for anticipating the impact of new technology. Monochrome frontispiece which is slightly rubbed along front edge, royal blue cloth, lettering to spine and front cover in gilt, publisher's device blind-stamped to lower cover, cloth to spine panel a little darkened and slightly rubbed along edges, end-papers tanned, scattered foxing to prelims, slight cracking to binding, otherwise a Very Good copy of an extremely scarce collection of criminous short stories. [Listed in Hubin]. Note: This copy accords with the entry in the English Catalogue of Books for 1910 which has the publication date as December 1910 (NOT 1911 as erroneously recorded elsewhere on the www).
