Despite its title, suggesting a art voyage through the Dutch East Indies, this book deals mainly with life and customs of non-indonesian population groups, commonly called "Vreemde Oosterlingen", e.g. Chinese on Sumatra and in Singapore (2 chapters), Arabs, Indians, Klingalese, Singhalese and Malays on Sumatra and in Singapore. The last chapter investigates court-life at Java, e.g. ceremonies and extraordinary festivals and notes of visits to various Volcanoes: Papandajan, Tankuban Prahu, Krakatau, Diëng Mountain-range, Bromo, including a visit to Prambanan & Borobudur Temple complexes.Good to very good copy.
