First edition. Octavo (20.5 x 13cm). 'The book is composed of two poems, one on music and another which is entited Diane, ou les Chasse du Cerf and based on Savary's Venationis Cervinae.leges, 1659. At any rate it is a free version thereof, although many new reflections and observations are introduced. This is followed by a dictionary of hunting terms, a musical play called Nouvelle Chasse du Cerf and a treatise on hunting notes'- Schwerdt. pp. xii,[iv],330,[2],32,4,14,[2]. With a frontispiece and 7 plates engraved by Le Bas after Oudry, woodcut title, woodcut intials & headpieces plus 50pp. of engraved musical notation. Some occasional light foxing, one plate offset from the text. Bound in contemporary 18th or 19th C calf, gilt with label, lightly rubbed. With the engraved bookplate of the Duchess De Berry at Chateau De Rosny plus a later small 19th C bookplate of L.S. v. Praag. Vg.
