5 1/8 inches x 7 3/8 in., woodcut illustration printed on a sheet of thin tissue (proof) type paper, for: "Meister Johans Hadloubs Minnelieder", initials in the block: AH [Alice Hartmann?]. Possibly produced as part of a student competition (The book was published by the Gewerbeschule, Zurich, 1921, with a titlepage by Pierre Gauchet). The paper shows very light, age-related tanning. From the personal collection of Swiss-born artist and designer, Fred Rentschler, who emigrated to America in the early 1920's, and later taught at the Cleveland [Ohio] School of Art. His collection contained examples of proofs & finished pieces of bookplates, new year's greetings, book illustrations, title-page designs, initial letters, etc. mainly produced by Swiss artists & designers, ca. 1917-22, including a few of his Swiss bookplate designs. Very scarce item. N° de ref. del artículo ABE-1269722013
