Editorial: Unidentified Photographer, Delhi

An unusual panoramic view of the Amphitheatre which, as the pencilled caption verso states, "gives a good idea of the size of the Place". Vast numbers of infantry are drawn up to the right of the shamiana as cavalry enter. Although the figures are small one can see almost half of the huge arena with crowded stands. The photograph is richly toned and in very bright condition but has a vertical crease towards the left end. In the right foreground are a large number of Indian veterans in uniform and wearing medals: amongst these may well be the veterans of the Mutiny who took part in the parade. This photograph came to us in an envelope addressed to Capt C S Linton of the Worcestershire Regiment from London photographers Fradell & Young of Regent Street. Maximum shipping charge £2.50 UK, £4.10 airmail. Size: 11.5 x 3.5ins [290 x 95mm]. N° de ref. de la librería 006918
