Cowboy Sam and Dandy by Edna Walker Chandler was published by Benefic Press, a Publishing Division of Beckley-Cardy Company, Chicago, Illinois, in 1958. This 6" X 8 1/2", 54-year-old, 48-page, believed-to-be First Edition offering is an ex-school library copy in G+ condition. Some of the standard library markings are present, there are several scribbles of a previous user, in blue ink, adorning portions of the front loose end page, and there is very slight shelf wear at the top and bottom edges of volume's spine as well as at the four outer tips of cover boards. Some modest yellowing is seen of endpapers front and back as well as pages of text in an otherwise very sound/firm offering, physically, for its age. This is, of course, one installment in the author's Cowboy Sam series, and all the familiar characters are in place--Cowboy Sam, Shorty, and Blacky, their faithful, strong, and alert horse. In this story, the boys are looking for a second horse. Thanks to the keen eyes and ears of Blacky, Cowboy Sam finds his second mount, albeit not quite ready to mount and ride at present. Enter the baby horse, eventually dubbed Dandy. This could well be put across to little listeners/readers as a lesson in EXERCISING PATIENCE when they get agitated/worried because they're still so small, while everyone else around them, it seems, is big and tall. Dandy, of course, grows into a big, strong, smart horse, right before our eyes. These Cowboy Sam books are very basic, primary readers, each one of which introduces dozens of new vocabulary words to very young readers. In the book's rear is the list of new words, and "The Reading Skills" explored in same. Some of the various, specific areas covered(with the appropriate page numbers noted where said skills are emphasized) include "Interpreting the Main Idea", "Interpreting a Story in Sequence", "Forming Associations", "Anticipating Outcomes", "Strengthening Memory by Observation, Association, and Visual Imagery", "Using Meaningful Clues As an Aid in Identifying Words", and "Understanding That a Sentence Is a Meaning Unit". Naturally, as in all the Cowboy Sam books, the signature Drawings of Jack Merryweather are present to be enjoyed, in his familiar blues, reds, and browns. Thank you!!. N° de ref. del artículo 005809
