Finely bound with gold decorative tooling to the front and rear boards. Spine with further tooling and gold lettering on red. Half-titles, engraved portrait frontispiece of the author and Charles Eisen after Vispre, engraved title-vignettes, head- and numerous tail-pieces by Choffard, engraved plates by Aliamet, Baquoy, Choffard, Delafosse and others after Eisen. Considered a masterpiece of 18th century engraving and one of the great French illustrated works. "Le Diable de Papefiguière" plate has been removed. Scarce and desirable. Endpapers darkened with age, some foxing particularly to early and late blank pages, binding a little loose but acceptable.
