Front end paper in Volume I loose, and slight separation of boards. Some wear to spines on both volumes, with more significant bumping to the boards in Volume I. Charles James Lever(1806 - 1872,was an Irish editor and writer whose novels, set in post-NapoleonicIrelandand Europe, featured lively, picaresque heroes. Charles O' Malley: The Irish Dragoon is a rollicking story of an Irish dragoon, Charles O'Malley, and his equally uninhibited servant, Mickey Free. It combines riotous fun and humor and military adventure; but also shows the darker side of war. The book, published in 1891, is bound in green cloth with attractive gold-tooled patterns in two volumes. Illustrations by Hablot Knight Browne (aka "Phiz"). An attractive set.
