xx, 496 pages of text, followed by one page of errata and one page containing an index to the illustrations. Original hardcover binding of paper-covered boards, with the original handwritten paper spine label; moderate shelfwear and soiling, including some softening/bumping to the corners. Minor browning and minimal foxing to the text. Complete with 15 lithographed plates, of which 12 are hand-colored, including one fold-out plate and a fold out map with outline color. The lithographs show Tartar costume, habitations and examples of Tartar & Turkish handwriting. Moderate foxing scattered throughout the text. The folding map has a small tear near where it attaches to the book, and is slightly misfolded. A few old notations on the front endpaper, and minor residue from an apparent bookplate removal on the inside front cover. The text is in German. First edition. Size: Octavo (8vo).
