Ruby 32mo. 480 + 120 unnumbered pages. All text printed within panelled borders (title page a little soiled at the bottom). All edges gilt. Original pale yellow endpapers. Contemporary dedication on the front pastedown dated 1888. Provenance: W.J. Gratton. 70 x 100mm. Original blue velvet, ornately cut-out brass plaque on front with decorations and "Common Prayer" engraved. Original decorative brass clasp, the reverse of the clasp has the name ' J. Blackwood ' engraved. Very faint vertical line impressed on the lower board. Tarnish to some parts of trim and the clasp is slightly twisted but works efficiently in closing the book. Dark ox blood coloured full leather boards, raised bands with embossed decorated compartments and title in gilt to the spine. Simple blind stamped foliage decoration to the front and rear boards. Corners rubbed, more so to the top two corners, o/w tight and clean. Gilt decorated inner dentelles. All edges gilt - showing some wear/rubbing. Internally the front endpapers are marked, stained and have a former owner's name in the ffep. The second free endpaper has been glued to the first free endpaper for some reason in the past. The title page and the rest of the text block is clean and tight, complete with the Gunpowder Treason section (removed mid-century). Includes an Integral ribbon bookmark, a bit 'rolled'.
