Descriptions by Mrs Thomas Hardy (Florence E Dugdale). 120 pages + 19 coloured plates (including frontispiece) + round illustration on front board. Illustrated by the great Edwardian illustrator Edward Julius Detmold are :- longtailed- tit, long-eared owl, magpie, cygnet, rhea, skua, blue tit, jay, gannet, redshank, whitethroat, chaffinch, capercailzie, the tropic bird, duckling, chickens, oystercatcher, yellowhammer, willow warbler. These head each bird's text; the plate for the first bird seems to be the frontispiece. The bird on the front board is not one of the inside plates -- cannot identify what it is. Tan cloth- backed boards, with large brown lettering to front and spine. Cute owner's bookplate, with name" Jane Reintjer", written on it, pasted to back of flyleaf titled page. Book tight and generally clean. Very slight foxing to endpapers and first few/last pages. Some faint and lmited water-staining to edges of the outside of the boards. Spine is sound. Corners are worn.
