Walton's book, first published in 1653, is, together with the Bible and the works of Shakespeare, one of the most reprinted works in English. A celebration of the art and spirit of fishing, a meditation on Nature, a commentary on political turbulence; the reader finds all of these in the dialogue between Pescator and Venator. Over the course of two centuries, the book was both reprinted and reissued in amplified editions, as Charles Cotton continued Walton's work. It also inspired illustrators, perhaps most famously Arthur Rackham in 1931.** Arnold Wood, the compiler of the bibliography, was an eminent collector of Walton's work. Included as ephemera is Book Auction News from G.A. Baker regarding the sale of Wood's collection.** The frontispiece is a copperplate engraving after Jacob Huysman's portrait of Izaak Walton by Thomas Johnson, signed by the artist.** Limited edition produced by The De Vinne Press in September 1900.
