Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the lives of two contrasting characters navigating the complexities of 18th-century English society. Richard Jeffray, a young gentleman of refined sensibilities, grapples with the expectations of his social circle and the influence of his overbearing aunt. In stark contrast, Bess, a fiercely independent young woman raised among the enigmatic forest-folk of Pevensel, challenges the norms of her time. The author skillfully juxtaposes the opulent world of country estates with the raw beauty of the untamed wilderness, exploring themes of social hierarchy, individual freedom, and the clash between tradition and personal desire. As Richard and Bess's paths converge amidst a backdrop of family secrets, smuggling, and simmering tensions, they are forced to confront their own identities and the choices that will shape their destinies. With vivid descriptions and a keen understanding of human nature, this book offers a captivating glimpse into a bygone era, ultimately revealing the enduring power of love, courage, and the search for belonging in a world defined by societal constraints. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
