Original blue & gilt-stamped pictorial cloth, (spine faded, extremities frayed). Shop anecdotes and reminiscences of a Manchester barber, including sketches of interesting clients, and lore relating to hairdressing and to notable barbers. This edition has been revised and substantially enlarged and contains a memoir of the author by W. E. A. Axon. xxxii, 244pp plus a Catalogue of Books at the rear (20pp). Approximately 8 inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine fair condition gilt titles with gilt decoration on the Barber s pole, frayed top and tail, colour faded and darkened. Joints good condition rubbed. Corners fair condition bumped and worn. Boards fair condition blue cloth pictorial board to the front with gilt decoration, marked and worn. Page edges good condition top edge slightly darkened, fore and bottom edges lightly tanned and foxed, edges shaken. See above and photos. Internally Hinges fair condition cracked with webbing showing but holding. Paste downs good condition plain. End papers good condition plain, internal free end papers are lightly tanned with some foxing. Title good condition lightly tanned. Pages good condition b/w frontispiece The King And The Barber Surgeons , numerous wood engravings throughout the text, cracked to the gutters in a number of places, the webbing can be seen between some pages 176 and 177, 208 and 209 and others, lightly tanned throughout.
