Brown textured paper covers with gold lettering on front. Paper covers (12.5 x 9 5/8"), staple bound. 20 unnumbered pages, with an additional four page program insert dated 29 December 1927 affixed in the center with the original gold string. Text in French. In good+ condition with a 1" tear to the fore-edge of the back cover and last free end paper and a few other small nicks and light bumping and creasing to edges. Light overall scuffing, aging and soiling to covers as well. Pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. Program includes four ballets: L?Oiseau de Feu (The Firebird), La Chatte, L?Apres-midi d?un Faune, and Danses Polovtsiennes du Prince Igor. Program lists dancers, choreographers, and composers and includes narrative descriptions of L?Oiseau de Feu and La Chatte. Notably, the principal dancers for L?Oiseau de Feu include Alexandra Danilova, Lubov Tchernicheva, Leonide Massine and a young George Balanchine. Program features striking black and white photographs of performers, including Lubov Tchernicheva, Serge Lifar, Alexandra, Danilova, Leonid Massine, Leon Voizikovskyu, Alice Nickitina, Georges Balanchine, Hoyer, Cieplinsky, Vera Petrova, Thad Slavinsky, Labor Soumarokova, Nicolas Kermneff, Constantin Tcherkass and Vera Savina. In good+ condition with a few a 1? tear to the fore-edge of the back cover and last free end paper and a few small nicks to edges of program. Light creasing to edges of pages as well and light overall scuffing, aging and soiling. The Ballets Russes was a groundbreaking ballet company founded in 1909 by Serge Diaghilev. The company was known for its innovative choreography, lavish sets and costumes, and collaborations with leading artists of the time. The Ballets Russes had a profound impact on the development of ballet in the 20th century, and its influence can still be seen in contemporary dance today.
