First editions of the first series (1861) in three volumes and the second series (1862), also in three volumes, complete. Octavo (22.5 x 14.5cm). 'Six volumes of autobiography show Mrs. Delany to have been an amiable and virtuous woman, universally respectable, and in her later years capable of telling many interesting anecdotes of Swift, Pope, and others to a later generation. The letters are chiefly intetesting as specimens of the commonplace gossip of good society in the eighteenth century.'- DNB. The whole smarty bound in slighty later half crushed morocco, gilt, teg, with cloth sides & marbled endpapers. Some occasional light foxing, and some very minor light rubbing. VG.
