A PRESENTATION COPY FROM THE AUTHOR WITH HIS SIGNED HOLOGRAPH INSCRIPTION ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Wynford Vaughan-Thomas (1908-1987), journalist and broadcaster, became one of the best-known BBC war correspondents of WWII. His distinctive voice with its tell-tale Welsh burr was heard reporting back from many theatres, most notably from the Anzio bridgehead, from a Lancaster bomber over Berlin and later from a newly-liberated Belsen. In this, his first published work, he gives an insightful account of the landing that rapidly turned to disaster. Signed copies by Vaughan-Thomas are scarce. Enser, p.32; Law 0541.
