Der niederländische Maler Frans Post begleitete 1636-1644 Johann Moritz von nassau-Siegen nach Brasilien. Seine zahlreichen Gemälde dieser Expedition zählen, auch wegen ihrer nahezu fotografischen Abbildungstreue, zu den wichtigsten Bilderzeugnissen von Brasilien aus dieser Epoche. Bedeutende Monographie mit Werkverzeichnis der Gemälde. Der Autor war ein führender Experte für Frans Post und besaß mehrere Gemälde von ihm. Er war Botschafter Brasiliens in Den Haag während einer Reihe von Jahren.
