Jamal al-Din ?asan b. Yusuf b. al-Mu?ahhar al-?illi (d. 726/1325) was an influential and prolific scholar, jurist, and theologian of the Imami Shi?i school of ?illah, whose unrivalled mastery of the Islamic sciences earned him the unique title of al-?Allamah, ‘the Doctor’.Sayyid Amjad H. Shah Naqavi, Ph.D., the University of Edinburgh, is the Dean of the Shi?ah Institute in London. He is the translator of The Mystery of Prayer (Brill, 2015) and is currently engaged with multiple academic projects including the study and translation of the Nahj al-balagah.
