Today, he and his wife, Ipek Merek, are among the most prominent collectors in the country. As amatter of fact, the first thing they purchased for their home when they were getting married in 1978 was a painting. Most of the Merey collection consists of oil-paintings on canvas and figurative paintings. One of the specific collection styles that Ahmet Merey is mostly interested in include portraits. Another area in which the collector is especially interested in is paintings of Pero, the figure of Roman mythology the carries his mother's name.
