Eduard Kann (1880-1962) was a leading authority on Chinese coins. His first great work was "The Currencies of China", published in 1927 in Shanghai, China and reprinted in 1975 in New York. This massive work of 562 pages provides a history of the Chinese monetary system, and is of immeasurable value to collectors and numismatic researchers. The work reprinted here is of immense value, as it provides illustrations and photographs of the actual coins, most of which were in Dr. Kann's personal collection. He refers to this catalog as "A Labor of Love".
Mario L. Sacripante is a notable collector and numismatic researcher of Chinese, Japanese and Korean coins. He was in the US. Air Force (1946-67) and after retiring from USAF, went to live in Japan and Korea, where he had many duty assignments previously while on active duty during the Japanese Occupation and Korean War (The Forgotten War). He lived in Japan for 39 years, where he frequently visited China. He is a fluent speaker, reader and writer of Japanese and can read Chinese as well. He has provided an introduction to this book, to put it into perspective and to help bring it up to date.
