The exhibition 'The other horizon' shows a representative selection of the American artist James Turell's prolific oeuvre. Turrell uses light as a medium, visualizing it in its fine materiality in complex light spaces. The visitor enters 'aesthetic fields' which result from the interplay of distance, illusion and perception and touch and shroud both view and body. The installations realized for the MAK present different forms of light works: 'Spectral Wedgeworks' and 'Space Division Constructions' enabling the visitor to grasp the sculptural dimension of light, a "Skyspace" in the MAK garden that seems to overcome the distance between sky and earth by establishing a congruence between the inner horizon of the space and the outer horizon, and a 'Ganzfeld Piece', 'Wide Out', which transforms the central exhibition hall into a blue, homogeneous 'infinite' space.
