Críticas

"The warm words and enchanting pictures tucked securely within these covers are ideal and comforting companions to readers, young and less-young, who will long to cuddle together and share their charm all year 'round." --Andrew Medlar, Youth Materials Specialist, Chicago Public Library "Readers will delight over the many different joys of each season. Each page allows the reader to feel, see and hear cozy." --JoEllen McCarthy, literacy coach "The idea of "cozy"--hyggelig in Danish and Gemutlichkeit in German but not so nuanced in English--is what drives this deliciously illustrated, rhymed seasonal tale. The pictures are a riot of color and pattern. Readers move through the seasons, starting with autumn, with items one might not think of as cozy but that definitely are: "Cozy toes in fuzzy boots, cozy pits in purple fruits." Several families of varying ethnicities populate these pages, and their activities display coziness: mom playing the banjo; dad at a sewing machine; everyone collecting a pumpkin in the rain. Braided loaves of bread, popcorn popping and Grandma tickling the belly of a pajama-clad toddler are all cozy. So are bugs in their flowers and keys in their pockets. Sometimes the rhyme doesn't quite catch, and sometimes it stretches beyond, but the images of "[c]ozy matzo balls in soup" or a scoop of ice cream cozy in its cone are pretty cute. Winter opens with three children on a quilted, padded window seat, watching the snow fall, while a parent in the kitchen flips hot cakes. The children's pajamas, the hall rug, snow falling on the rainbow-colored cityscape--all make a kaleidoscope of pattern that one can return to again and again. Every page is like that. It is worth noting that this title is printed and bound in the United States and that its paper is labeled "from responsible sources." That would not help a less effective tale, but it truly enhances this 32-page delight. (Picture book. 4-7)" --Kirkus Reviews, June Issue "Filled with luminously colored and vividly detailed illustrations, this picture book in rhyming text celebrates that feeling of coziness so often associated with family and home. As the seasons change over the course of the year, all sorts of objects, including dreams, cocoa, birds, sweaters, and apples are described as being cozy. Although it's wonderful to feel secure and cozy at any time of the year, youngsters experiencing tough times may find solace in this lovely, heartfelt book. There is little doubt that anyone reading this book won't relate to some of the different objects and relationships that spell coziness for the narrator." - Barbara A. Ward, Washington State University Pullman IRA Reading Today Online "...a delightful book for bedtime... or anytime you want a sweet story. This picture book reinforces the idea that our everyday surroundings offer a sense of coziness... Without a doubt, COZY LIGHT, COZY NIGHT is a beautiful book... Each page is filled with colorful pictures of the cozy objects and children basking in their coziness. I especially appreciated that different cultures, tradition and ethnic backgrounds are featured on the pages. COZY LIGHT, COZY NIGHT is a book that's guaranteed to charm parents and children alike! -- Booking Mama "Cozy Light, Cozy Night" is a fantastic verse paean to the seasons, interwoven with detailed, multi-sensory images and beautiful specific pictures of delightful seasonal joys and days, and nights. The word "cozy" is broadened in its definition by being presented in all four seasonal references, and many poetic images, helping children learn enriched word shadings. "Cozy Light, Cozy Night" presents a vibrant four season world, inhabited by friendly cats, charming children, "nurturing adults, and a full rainbow of life experiences. "Cozy Light, Cozy Night" is recommended for children ages 3-9, but children and adults of all ages will enjoy it. -- The Midwest Book Review, July 2013 Children's Bookwatch Cozy Light, Cozy Night is written and illustrated by Elisa Kleven with a cover design by Simon Stahl. The book was created for young preschool readers to enjoy. This book is perfectly designed, laid out, and formatted to match the comprehension level of the young reader. The story offers an interesting plot of the 4 seasons, with creative rhyming text to describe each beautiful illustration. The story provides an interesting take on the 4 season with its rhyming next describing summer, winter, fall, Spring, and a few activities a younger reader and their family can enjoy during each. The book offers a chance for both young and old to cuddle together and appreciate the surroundings we live in during each season. It offers an education of the seasons, family togetherness, a chance for activity, recreating an activity described in the story, and a beautifully illustrated colorful picture. Elisa Kleven has created a fun, intriguing, vibrant story for all to appreciate. The book perfectly describes each of the 4 seasons that the our earth can offer different locations. For those who don't have one or more of the seasons, this book can fill their imagination with what it might be like to experience the one or ones they lack. It is a great learning resource for every parent and teacher to have on their shelves to grab when it's time to discuss the different weather patterns. Terrific, and well done job by the author and all involved to help create this wonderful book and work of art. -- Readers' Favorite Book Review and Award Contest Bountiful details and scenes-within-scenes give readers a wealth of images to spot. A visually rich ode to the snug feeling of safety and togetherness that comes with spending time with family and friends. Ages 3--9. -- Publishers Weekly "This beautiful rhyming picture book takes readers on a ride through the seasons, starting and ending with the world peacefully turning and stars reliably twinkling, while we are tucked in bed safe and cozy for the night. At every time of year, readers are treated to a feast of seasonal food, comfortable places, and everyday wonders. Cozy Light, Cozy Night is not a book that is meant to be read by children themselves. It is a book that is meant to be shared and through such sharing emotional bonds can be built and reading comprehension can be improved. There are definitions to be discussed, such as bowers (one of a few words clearly chosen for their rhyme) and feelings to be explored such as what cozy means at different times and places." -- Yolanda Ridge, Reviewer "Elisa's richly illustrated book Cozy Light, Cozy Night takes you through the seasons with lots of family fun and multicultural activities. While it may be a bit much for younger readers to read on their own the illustrations are engaging and this would make a lovely story for parents to read aloud to their children. This book would be a great addition to any children's collection and would also be valuable in a school library." -- Rebecca Brown, Librarian Kleven takes readers on an appreciative, poetic trip through the seasons, starting with autumn. A family wakes up ready to enjoy the season, with cozy toes, cozy trees, cozy nuts, etc. The narrative moves through the joys of the year, until, after appreciating the Moon and Earth in the summer, the family is snuggling in bed at night. -- School Library Journal "In a lovely rhyming verse, it describes the sights and feelings of each season. The bright, busy pictures not only bring the words to life but also help you spot various things that are mentioned or take your interest. I loved the thought of "Crocodiles and kangaroos in coats of snowy cream". This is a comforting book for bedtime. It has comforting food, sounds and sights, all of which makes you feel very cozy indeed." --Children's Web Magazine Each bit of simple poetry is bountifully expressed in collage-and-watercolor artwork that is filled with children, families, and pets enjoying their days. The pictures have a childlike look that will immediately endear it to young readers. A nice way to get children thinking about their own special, cozy moments. -- Booklist "Much in the manner of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, Cozy Light, Cozy Night celebrates all good things seasonal. Instead of notes, the book uses lulling rhythms, warm rhymes, and colorful illustrations to highlight all the little cozy things of life that make children feel good. Penned by the author of The Paper Princess, the book will become an instant classic and each bedtime read will become an I-spy game bringing comfort and warmth to little ones." --Golden Gate Mothers Group Magazine "We are witness to the many manifestations of 'cozy' -- togetherness with family and friends, pleasure in nature, yummy food, enjoyment of music and dance, and 'cozy pictures light our dreams.' The illustrations recall mosaics, full of bits of color, mixed media and collage, and are bursting with detail. This is a delightful and joyful book for all." --Parents-express.com "The warm words and enchanting pictures tucked securely within these covers are ideal and comforting companions to readers, young and less-young, who will long to cuddle together and share their charm all year 'round" -- Andrew Medlar, youth materials specialist, Chicago Public Library
