"The material in this book has been prepared to serve as a guide for a series of field tours organized for the annual meeting of the Vernacular Architecture Forum, held in Annapolis in May 1998. The theme of the conference, "The Changing Landscape of the Chesapeake," shaped the content selected for the tours. A desire to emphasize pre-industrial with a clear regional identity directed the focus toward eighteenth century sights. The planners also searched for buildings with solidly documented dates of construction as a way of to assist colleagues in recognizing patterns in the development of building traditions and architectural decorations in this region." Originally intended as a sourcebook for professionals, it was decided to include additional material to satisfy a broader and more general range of interests and needs. Over fifty structures are included, many of them private residences that were not previously well-documented in a general survey of this sort. The section on each structure contains a general historical description of the structure and the associated lands, exterior and interior photos, and a plan view. Nº de ref. del artículo: 001843
