Reseña del editor:
This work reprints the definitive 1952 edition of two of the most significant works in the corpus of Celtic-Latin literature, St Patrick's "Confessio" and his "Epistola ad milites Corotici". These texts by the national apostle are the only texts in any language known to survive from fifth-century Ireland and offer primary evidence concerning the life, personality and achievements of St Patrick. They will be of interest to historians, theologians, archaeologists, geographers, linguists, Celticists and others attempting to shed light on those obscure times. The book is an ancillary volume to the Royal Irish Academy's "Dictionary of Medieval Latin from Celtic Sources" project, whose main publications are detailed at http://journals.eecs.qub.ac.uk/DMLCS.
Biografía del autor:
Ludwig Bieler MRIA (1906-1981) was a Hiberno-Latin scholar. Among his many publications in classics - his primary area of training - are a critical edition of Boethius's `Consolatio philosophiae', as well as a history of Latin literature (3rd ed., 1972). He will be best remembered in Ireland, however, for his contribution to Patrician scholarship, especially his unsurpassed edition of the Libri epistolarum S. Patricii (2 vols, 1952), Four Latin Lives of St Patrick (1971), and The Patrician texts in the Book of Armagh (1979), as well as a host of important papers on virtually every aspect of the Patrician documents and the history and cult of St Patrick.
