The traditional railway that was the Great Western was nowhere better exemplified than in its branch and secondary lines, especially in the South West. Thousands and thousands of holidaymakers over the years have visited and travelled in trains on scenic GWR branches and secondary lines in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Perhaps the classic images are of a green 'Prairie Tank' on a couple of chocolate-and-cream carriages or an auto-train, but there were also lines which had GW 4-6-0s working through trains from the big conurbations. In this collection of highly evocative, carefully selected pictures, these sights are well covered, along with freights and enthusiast specials. But it is not all just trains and locomotives, various stations and halts, mostly long since demolished, are also depicted.
