White Gold: The Story of Alcoa of Australia - Tapa dura

An addition to Australian mining, industrial and financial history, this text tells the story of aluminium in Australia, from the first discoveries of bauxite in Western Australia's Darling Range around the beginning of this century to an historic coming together of US and Australian mining and manufacturing interests in the 1990s to form one of the world's major alumni-producing companies.

Geoffrey Blainey is one of Australia's most celebrated historians. For twenty years - from 1968 to 1988 - he was successively professor of economic history and professor of history at Melbourne University. In the early 1980s he was visiting professor at Harvard University, and is now chancellor of the University of Ballarat. Professor Blainey has written more than 25 books and edited or contributed to dozens more. His books range from some of the grand themes of Australian history (the title of one book, The Tyranny of Distance, has become part of the Australian vernacular) to histories of individual companies. He also writes regularly for newspapers and has contributed, often controversially, to public discussion about social issues.
