This analysis of the disastrous consequences of private ownership of the railways draws extensively on the author's access to the testimonies of those who work on the railways - the train drivers, signal and maintenance workers,as well as station staff and passengers. The run-up to last October's Hatfield disaster and the subsequent and ongoing chaos are examined in detail.
