This book allows six expert and renowned psychotherapists (and their critics) to present their approach to dealing with a variously troubled and complexly dysfunctional person. The very complexity of the client challenges all the resources of the six therapists. We witness their theory specific manner in the guise of case histories. That they are all dealing with the same set of problems allows the reader to vividly contrast their differences.A strength of the book is that the therapists have been asked to parenthetically explain the covert thinking that entered into their interventions. These "asides" explain the rationale for each of the most significant interventions they have made. This allows the reader to enter the mind of the therapist as he or she pursues the thread of the therapy that unfolds in the protocols.At the end of each protocol, an expert in the system offers a critique of the therapy presented. These experts delineate the limitations, alternative strategies, and strengths of the approach they are critiquing.
