More specifically it deals with the transmission of speech and music in rooms in which some kind of performance is presented and with the propogation of noise in working environments such as factories or large offices. The first half of Room Acoustics - 3rd Edition is devoted to the various ways to describe the compute sound fields in closed spaces with special regard to transient phenomena (reverberation). The second half of the book deals with sound absorbtion with the subjective effects of complex sound fields and with the more practical aspects of room acoustics, namely : measuring techniques, design procedures and electroacoustic installations in rooms. The need for a third edition of this book was due mainly to the ever increasing application of the digital computer, which not only increases the accuracy and rapidity of acoustical measurements, but also to methods to predict acoustical properties of halls and hence puts acoustical design on a safer basis. Several other new items have been included in this third edition, for instance pseudostochastic diffusors or the application of the modulation transfer function. Increased emphasis is given to the prediction of noise levels in enclosures including those in which the sound field cannot be expected to be diffuse. Room Acoustics - 3rd Edition will be of interest to all those involved with acoustics, building and environmental acoustics, architecture, civil engineering, building science and noise and vibration.
