'The Christmas party season is over and it's time to get fit and healthy. The question is: how fit and healthy? Raw Food Detox is the more extreme form of abstainer. At least, that's the impression I got when I opened the book and saw the following line: Eat Sprouts and algae. Now, I like being fit, but scoffing algae does not exactly appeal. I scanned some scary looking detox programmes. I'm afraid detoxing is not my cup of tea (green, presumably). I persevered. My spirits rose when I was reminded that watercress (surely the most underrated leaf in the world) contains a dazzling supply of vitamins A and C, iron and calcium. 'Add it to your salads, juices and smoothies on a daily basis,' the author Anya Ladra commands. And I'd happily comply. I began to warm to the book. The juices and smoothies and salads look amazing. Last sunday, I went to the farmers' market and bought bags of mixed organic salad leaves that packed amazing flavours with a nutritional thumbs-up. And I suddenly realised I'd been 'detoxing' in a basic way all along. Only I call it eating healthily.
