Nelson is a horse, a carthorse for Mike the Milk to be exact, and as Mike has bought a milk float, Nelson has been retired. Not that he minds: it gives him more time to do the crossword. However, when environmental disaster threatens at St Mary's Dairy in Pont-y-Cary, Nelson and his chums Rhodri and Rhys, the stable rats, and Flight Lieutenant Pigeon save the day in their own inimitable way, and it looks like Nelson may not be retired after all. There are lots of in-jokes and plays on words that parents may well twig to more readily than children, but all will enjoy the zany storyline and Jac Jones's comic-style line drawings. A beautifully produced hardback, this short novel is Simon Westons first attempt at childrens literature and shows a sense of fun that children will respond to.
