Matthew is persona non grata at the school where he teaches, courtesy of a false accusation from the parents of one of his students. But when his affair with the fifteen-year-old boy turns into reality, Matthew jumps at the chance to forsake Seattle for the leafy boulevards of Paris. Yet the fascination of unravelling Stein's bizarre, poignant childhood is soon eclipsed by Matthew's overwhelming attraction to Stéphane, the teenage son of the household in which he is staying. As Matthew becomes more deeply involved in his pretence, in the intricacies of the Parisian art world and in the enigmatic life of Allan Stein, he also falls under the erotic spell of the young boy. Should he remain in Paris and face the consequences of his desires? Or flee home to the States?
