Kac Young never imagined that after a lifetime as a 'cat person' she would fall in love with, and adopt, a tiny rescue dog called Talulah. She loved other people's dogs, but "I never had time and they smell funny, lick your makeup off and pee on your new shoes." All that changed when she met Talulah during a trip out with friends and just had to take her home to a house in the forest in California, shared with her partner and six cats and visited by deer, squirrels and skunks. The stories of life as a first-time adopter describe Kac's progression from slightly shell-shocked beginner to savvy, adoring dog guardian.Right from the start, Kac consulted behaviourist Lisa Tenzin-Dolma on all things dog-related, and Lisa's observations and guidance on a wide range of subjects follow Kac's stories, so that those with little experience of living with a dog can get started on the right foot and paw and build a loving, trusting relationship.Entertaining and informative, this book will appeal to both new and seasoned dog guardians.

Críticas:
Very well written paperback basically about a cat lady acquiring a dog! Written by mac Young, whose steep learning curve consisted of becoming a good doggy Mom to Talulah, a small rescue dog. The book takes the reader through rescue centres and how to find the right dog for you, this is achieved in a super true story form in how Talulah settles in and necessities such as toilet training, travel, feeding, other pets... in this case six cats! Chapters follow with Talulah making appearances in photos throughout. I love the last paragraph as I think it is so important. 'Have fun with your dogs, and make the most of every moment. Drink in his love and devotion and offer the same in return.' I think sometimes our daily lives take over and we forget our most devoted friends have such a short time with us. Both entertaining and informative, this book is totally delightful and a wonderful read for dog owners new and old. Full of information and beautiful photos and a true story shared. - Dog Training Weekly. When Kac Young adopted a rescue dog called Talulah she consulted Lisa Tenzin-Dolma on all things dog-related. Lisas observations and guidance make an entertaining and informative book that will appeal to both new and seasoned dog guardians. The result, The Supposedly Enlightened Person's Guide To Raising A Dog is a beautifully illustrated book that makes an ideal gift for dog households. - Driving With Dogs. Talulah's soulful gaze begs you to add her to your shopping cart for the tale of a lifetime. Buy and enjoy an uplifting read about learning to love a dog and learning to earn a dog's love too! Marc Bekoffs forward to The Supposedly Enlightened Persons Guide To Raising A Dog is an enduring endorsement of the pioneering work of Hubble & Hattie in publishing books written by ethical guardians of other species. Behind this superbly illustrated saga shines a beautifully bright light that will never be extinguished. Kac Youngs gentle self0deprecating humour permeates this book and offers comfort and wisdom to the newbie dog guardian. Kac shares her aspirations as an adoptive guardian in a heartwarming read. She embraces her new role with humility, a willingness to learn and a heart full of unconditional love. Lisas generous advice is also compressed into easy to follow dot point summaries. The Supposedly Enlightened Person Guide To Raising A Dog is irresistible. Pick up Talulah today!- Geelong Obedience Dog Club. This soft backed book of some 128 pages and over 20 chapters I have read at least three times before commencing this review and, as someone who has been involved in the subject for a lifetime, learned something new each time I read it. I found it fascinating and am convinced that anyone, irrespective of experience, has a new dog, no matter whether puppy of adult, will find it an extremely helpful guide. I found each chapter- no matter how short- interesting and instructive. I was learning without realising it! I am convinced that anyone who acquires a new dog, mongrel or pedigree, will benefit from these chapters whatever the reader's experience. I am sure it is not a book that will be lest gathering dust on the shelf but will be referred to time and time again. Buy it, read it and be educated and entertained. Whatever your experience I am sure you will not regret the decision. - Trevor Turner. Entertaining and informative, this book will appeal to both new and seasoned dog guardians. - Australian Dog Lover. An engaging, entertain, and informative read from cover to cover, "The Supposedly Enlightened Person's Guide to Raising a Dog" will help anyone with a new canine companion of their own to start off on the right foot with a new dog, or get reacquainted with a longtime canine friend and companion! In addition to the reading lists of dog enthusiasts, "The Supposedly Enlightened Person's Guide to Raising a Dog" is very highly recommended for community library pet/wildlife collections. - Midwest Book Review. This charming book is a must have for any first time dog owner. It is so easy to read, honest, and packed full of brilliant advice. Unlike some dog books that just give you the information you need in a somewhat boring and sterile way, this book is created by two skilled teachers, the best kind of teachers, the teachers you don't realise are instructing you because they make it fun, a story, a journey. What they don't do is make it seem that adopting a dog or buying a puppy is easy with no drama. When bringing a dogs onto your home and life there is always adjustments to be made by both sides; it is how you manage those shifts that is important. Kac was lucky enough to have one of the best mentors I know, in Lisa's gentle, non-judgemental guidance and Talulah and Truffle thrived on Kac's compassionate approach and Lisa's common-sense instructions. It should be made compulsory for every first time dog owner to read this book. - Toni Shelbourne - Canine Behaviour Practitioner.
