Críticas:

"White's new novel, "Jack Holmes," represents a sort of liberation for him as a novelist . . . In creating [Jack], White has as much recourse to books as to experience, and this gives his narrative a real density and weight." --"New York Review of Books, on JACK HOLMES AND HIS FRIEND"

"White delivers something rare . . . For Jack Holmes and his friend, the realm of the body is the city they inhabit together, fellow libertines and explorers in a concrete place free of illusory deception." --"The New York Times Book Review, on JACK HOLMES AND HIS FRIEND"

"An enchanting stream of anecdote, observation, impropriety and erudition . . . A brilliant and engaging though none too rigorous, monologue by a self-described archaeologist of gossip . . . Provocative, beguiling, funny." --"The Guardian, on INSIDE A PEARL"

"So witty, so insightful, so bristling with gossip, that one almost fails to notice that it is an essential chronicle of a revolution in many ways no less important than the fall of Communism: the gay liberation movement." --"Harper's on CITY BOY"

"Edmund White tells such a good story that I'm ready to to listen to anything he wants to talk about." --"The New York Times Book Review on THE FLANEUR"

"Every so often a novel comes along that is so ambitious in its intention and so confident of its voice that it reminds us what a singular and potent thing a novel can be." --"San Francisco Chronicle on A BOY'S OWN STORY"

"Taken together, [Jack and Will's] stories form a deep and powerful picture of love, desire, affection, rejection and despair in a great American city." --"NPR "All Things Considered," on JACK HOLMES AND HIS FRIEND"

Reseña del editor:
Our Young Man follows the life of a gorgeous Frenchman, Guy, as he goes from the industrial city of Clermont-Ferrand to the top of the modeling profession in New York City's fashion world, becoming the darling of Fire Island's gay community. Like Wilde's Dorian Grey, Guy never seems to age; at thirty-five he is still modeling, still enjoying lavish gifts from older men who believe he's twenty-three--though their attentions always come at a price. Ambivalently, Guy lets them believe, driven especially by the memory of growing up poor, until he finds he needs the lie to secure not only wealth, but love itself. Surveying the full spectrum of gay amorous life through the disco era and into the age of AIDS, Edmund White (who worked at Vogue for ten years) explores the power of physical beauty--to fascinate, to enslave, and to deceive--with sparkling wit and pathos.
