Most folks encounter unusual things from time to time. In the South during the sixties, unusual was the rule rather than the exception. Most families have their eccentrics and crazy folks; my family just seems to have more of them than most. One Southern writer once said that folks in the North hide their crazy relatives away, out of sight. In the South, however, we donat hide them awayawe bring them out and parade them around. The South in the sixties was a somewhat surreal place. The war in Viet Nam, the Civil Rights movement, the space race, and the Cold War took up much of the countryas attention. Unusual looks normal when unusual is all you know. Life on Bull Creek is a snapshot of that time and place and of the many strange people and events that made that time so unique.
