Dad can be there to coach your soccer team, feed your pet, lend you money, or just hold your hand when you need support. His resume is sure to include: dancing partner, bug catcher, jar opener, and campfire builder. But what is Dad the best at? Being a friend and protector.
In 33 Uses for a Dad we are reminded of all the wonderful, caring things that dads do every day. Harriet Ziefert and Amanda Haley team up to give us a simple, quirky, and direct look at how children view the world, singing the praises of fathers everywhere.

PreSchool-Grade 1–This book isn't a story; it's simply an illustrated list, with one or two numbered job titles for Dad per page. They include tailor, architect, and coach as well as taxi, ATM machine, and hand holder. While the text directly celebrates a father's functionality, the underlying theme is one of family stability and support. The understated watercolor cartoon drawings are set against a white background and focus readers' attention on the ever-changing Dads and the many children in their care. The illustrations have a quiet, gentle charm that helps make this offering inviting. Even so, readers will quickly get the gist of it–which limits the book's usefulness and longevity.–Martha Topol, Traverse Area District Library, Traverse City, MI
