Years in the future, Sophie and her little brother Sam miss their parents, who are so involved with playing a virtual reality video game that they hardly even take breaks for food or sleep. Luckily, the kids have Petey, a house robot, to take care of them. Then one day, Petey changes -- he develops a mind and feelings of his own. Everyone else thinks Petey needs to be repaired, but Sophie and Sam love the new Petey and try to help him escape. Then Petey sees that Sam is in danger and gives up his freedom to save Sam's life.
