Krazy Kat is a love story, focusing on the relationships of its three main characters. Each of the characters was ignorant of the others' true motivations, and this simple structure allowed Herriman to build entire worlds of meaning into the actions, building thematic depth and sweeping his readers up by the looping verbal rhythms of Krazy & Co.'s unique dialogue. Most of these strips in this volume have not seen print since originally running in Hearst newspapers over 70 years ago. With a full 104 Sunday pages this time around, this particular book is jam packed with little room for extras, but we did squeeze in a half-dozen or so pages' worth of never-before-seen Herriman memorabilia (all in color), including a spectacular full-color New Year's card illustration done for a friend.

Paperback. Condición: As New. Softcover. Good binding and cover. Light edge wear. Clean, unmarked pages. Fantagraphics is proud to re-present Krazy Kat to a new generation of readers. Each volume in this series reprints two full years of Sunday strips, or 104 full-page, black-and-white Sunday strips (Herriman did not incorporate color into the strip until 1935). Krazy Kat is a love story, focusing on the relationship of its three main characters. Krazy Kat adored Ignatz Mouse. Ignatz Mouse hated Krazy Kat, the expression of which was in throwing bricks at Krazy's head. Offisa Pup loved Krazy and sought to protect her (Herriman always maintained that Krazy was genderless), mostly by throwing Ignatz in jail. Each of the characters was ignorant of the other's true motivations. This simple structure allowed Herriman to build entire worlds of meaning into the actions, building thematic depth that led critics like Gilbert Seldes and E. E. Cummings to recognize Herriman's genius almost immediately. Each of Fantagraphics' Krazy & Ignatz volumes is designed by Chris Ware, creator of the wildly successful ACME Novelty Library series. This beautiful volume includes material never collected before. This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US. Soft cover. Condición: As New. 1st Edition. First Fantagraphics Books edition: April 2006. Bright, clean & tight copy, in FULL COLOR, unread, in AS NEW condition. "The seventh volume of 'Krazy Kat' reprints further verifies that Herriman's strip constitutes a pinnacle of comics art. As throughout the strip's three-decade run, these installments, offered in full color, focus on the eternal triangle of indeterminately gendered Kat; disdainful Ignatz Mouse, whom Kat adores; and Kat's unrequited worshipper, Offissa Pupp, a dog. The triangle is complemented by a rectangle: the ever-present bricks Ignatz hurls at the noggin of hapless Kat, who perceives them as love offerings. Along with the other inhabitants of Coconino County, the trio speaks a droll patois, Yiddish-influenced in the mouth of Krazy, who, for instance, laments, 'I are illone. Jetz me.' But most crucial to 'Krazy Kat's exalted status are the remarkable, idiosyncratic backdrops that place the breezily sketched characters in a surrealistically ever-shifting desert. This volume also contains several pieces Herriman drew for friends, including a spectacular, oversized Coconino landscape. Like its predecessors, the book was designed by Chris Ware, one of the few present-day comics artists whose work approaches the brilliance of Herriman's."--Booklist. "A joyous, life-enhancing reading experience--this beautifully produced book is a must for any reader interested in great art."-- Publishers Weekly.
