Unfinished Funeral is a novel set at the turn of the century in Spain, on the ancestral estates of the infinitely rich and eccentric Dukes of Combon de Triton. The heroine is Ermelinda, Duchess of Combon de Triton, who has contrived to avert the fate of Spanish wives of all classes--desertion, betrayal, resignation--by making herself an object of pity and awe to her husband and children. (The New York Review of Books)
Born in Switzerland of an Italian mother and a Russian father, Niccolo grew up in privileged circumstances that were eliminated by the Bolshevik Revolution. His family relocated to Tuscany. In 1938, he resigned a position with Mussolini's Press Ministry and immigrated to the US. He wrote numerous short stories and a few longer works, many of which are largely autobiographical.
