Henry St. John Bolingbroke (1678 - 1751) was an English statesman, politician, and philosopher. Born in Battersea and educated at Eton and Oxford, he was a leading Tory politician and diplomat during the reign of Queen Anne. Starting his literary career late in life, he conducted philosophical, biblical, and historical research and produced some well - researched books as Dissertation Upon Parties (1733 - 34) and The Idea of a Patriot King (1738).
